Scenic Tamsui
The Arabs said, “Not seeing Cairo, the world is not seen”. People who praise Tamsui said, “not seeing Tamsui, Taiwan is not seen.”

Fort San Domingo
Fort San Domingo is built on the peak of the north shore by the Tamsui river, dominating the sea entrance, that had always been fought for. At this spectacular historical place, one can see the wonderful and various sights, influenced by the climate, the river, the mountains on the opposite shore and the sea.
Huwei Fort
The original Fort was destroyed during the battle with France in 1884. The governor, Ming-chuan Liu, re-built and completed it in 1899. Seeing its grandeur and its importance in guarding the Tamsui port, Liu gave it the name of "key to the North Gate" (Beimensuoyao).
Chapel
This is the first church built by Dr. Mackay in Taiwan. Its remarkable Gothic style and elaborate art work is appreciated by all the painters of Taiwan since its completion in 1933.
Tamkang University Avenue
The pathway to Tamkang University, Ying-chuan Road, is the busiest shopping area in Tamsui and is a popular night market. When you go uphill on the road, you can reach the campus. Its splendid avenue has buildings, gardens and palace-style lampposts on both sides. Tourists and couples very much enjoy coming here to saunter around.
Red Mansion
This colonial-style building was built by Mr. Lee at the end of the Ching Dynasty and sold to Mr. Hung during Japanese colonization. Many photos of Tamsui port and landscapes were taken from here. It is renovated and now open to public as a cafe and a gallery.

Tamkang Coliseum
It was built in 1923 and is the first architectural works of the priest Kenneth W. Dowie in Taiwan. Mr. Dowie designed it according to the style of the Taiwan Minnan architecture. It is significant in the architectural history of Taiwan and in the history of the Christian church.

Tamkang octagonal tower
It was designed by Mr. Dowie in 1925. He successfully united the style of the Chinese Tower and Western architecture. Visiting here, one can see the local building materials, the site plan of Taiwanese housing, two smaller octagonal towers at the front, the green courtyard, coconut palm trees, stone sculptures and the lamp posts...
